Breakout
Breakout is a multi-day gaming convention that runs in March in Toronto. Convention content includes board games, tabletop role playing games, live-action role playing games, workshops and panels.
I was brought onto the Breakout convention team in 2015 to help develop a RPG track for the inaugural convention in 2016. The RPG track we produce is currently the largest in Canada. The inaugural year featured over 180 RPG events across 3 days. In 2017, we expanded the schedule to over 220 RPG events, including the D&D Adventurers League Epic The Ark of the Mountains.
Plans for future conventions include expanding our guest RPG event selection, supporting our growing community of local RPG designers, encouraging more diversity in our volunteer GMs and, in general, promoting an inclusive role playing convention community where all gamers can feel welcome.
Fan Expo Canada
Fan Expo is the largest Comics, Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, and Gaming event in Canada and the 3rd largest Pop Culture event in North America. It features one of the largest RPG tracks in Canada with over 140 RPG events over 4 days.
I joined the Fan Expo Canada RPG team in 2014. My goals that year were to redevelop the Open RPG event schedule and develop a track for the then new D&D Adventurers League. Over the course of 3 years, our team has doubled the amount of Adventurers League content and nearly double the amount of Open RPG content while reducing overhead costs for the convention.
As co-manager of D&D Adventurers League content with Rob Deobald, I have been Head Administrator and Track Commander for three Epic Adventures: Corruption in Kryptgarden, Blood Above, Blood Below, and Reclamation of Phlan.
Plans for future conventions include developing a more inclusive gaming environment, thus increasing the diversity of our volunteers and creating a safe gaming space for all convention attendees.
